Candied Grapes – Grapes are crisp, sweet, and convenient for on-the-go for a lot of picky eaters.
Who knew that candied grapes would inspire me to switch them up when I was searching for inspiration?
I tried these and, despite not having much of a sweet craving, they were really good and really easy.
It’s an excellent idea to introduce something new to a child who already consumes grapes.
This could be a novel approach to giving grapes to a child who hasn’t eaten them yet.
The result is a sweet explosion combined with the typical grape crunch. Whether or not there is a sour undertone also depends on the flavor of the jelly or jello. It was a fantastic sweet/sour combo because I used lime.

What Are Candied Grapes?
A delightfully easy dessert that has gained popularity recently on TikTok are candied grapes.
They have fresh grapes that have been rolled in sugar and dipped in lemon syrup, and are as juicy, sweet, and crunchy as they come. The syrup becomes a deliciously crispy and crackly shell as it cools.
Candied grapes are a must-try, whether they are served on sticks or just on their own. They also serve as evidence that often the easiest sweets to create are the best ones.
Why I Love Candy Grapes?
When I needed something quick and simple to do with my kids, these candied grapes were my saving grace. We have a family activity every afternoon as part of our “summer schedule,” and this particular afternoon was quite chaotic. Not even time to visit the park or the pool for a few hours. I required something that I could finish in fifteen minutes or less. Granted, I could have opted out of the family outing that day, but my goodness, would I have paid the price for it the remainder of the day.
It’s easy to learn how to make candied grapes. All they use is some Jello powder and grapes. And when I first saw this recipe on the Household Almanac, I knew we had to try them because I know how much my little minions adore the combination of sweet and sour flavors. Better yet, the pucker should be stronger! Since some of you dislike sour flavors, feel free to use non-sour Jello flavors in this recipe.
We argued about which flavor—the Watermelon Candied Grapes or the Green Apple—was better. Because it was so sour, I personally liked the green apple flavor better, but everyone else seemed to like the watermelon flavor. Simple is the name of the game with this unique candied grape recipe! Literally, two ingredients and about 5 minutes of your time is all it takes to get this recipe done:
- Red or green grapes – be sure they are firm
- Jello powder – any flavor but do not use a sugar-free version
Candy Grapes Recipe Variations

- In a medium pot whisk together sugar, water and Karo syrup. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. While the syrup is boiling line 3 cookie sheets with parchment paper. Once the syrup reaches 280f whisk in kool-aid powder and food coloring. Remove from heat once the temperature is 300f.
- Insert a toothpick at the bottom of a grape and dip the whole grape in the syrup. Then immediately roll it in the crushed Jolly Ranchers and place it on the prepared cookie sheet to cool. Remove the toothpick immediately. Repeat with rest of the grapes. If the sugar mixture starts to thicken heat it over medium heat, be careful not to burn it.
- Place the candied grapes in the refrigerator to cool for about 10 minutes. Then package them in airtight containers.
How to Store:
These can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator where they will last for up to 3 days. You can also freeze these. Place them in a freezer bag and they will last in the freezer for up to 3 months. Defrost in the refrigerator and enjoy.

How to Store Candied Grapes?
If you are fortunate enough to have leftovers, place the completed candy grapes in an airtight container lined with paper towels. After adding another paper towel on top, cover the container with the lid, and refrigerate. Any moisture left over from preparing the grapes, as well as any that may develop in the refrigerator, will be absorbed by the paper towels. The candy coating will become ruined by such moisture. Keep the container dry because humidity is your enemy.
Why Candy Coating Won’t Stick to the Grapes?
First, check to see if there is enough water on the grapes. If they aren’t moist enough, they won’t coat correctly because the moisture serves as the Jello powder’s glue. Should they be overly desiccated, the coating may not adhere properly or there may be areas where the coating is absent around the grape.
You may need to treat the grapes in several layers if issues still arise even with them wet. As directed in the instructions for the first coat, roll the wet grapes in the powder. Transfer them to a baking sheet, give them another quick spritz with water, and give them another roll in the powder. That ought to cover any gaps; if not, carry out steps one through three again.
Can I Use Sugar-Free Jello to Candy Grapes?
Sadly, this recipe will not work with sugar-free Jello powder. Eating would not be a fun experience! The flavor is entirely up to personal preference! Simply pick up a box or two of Jello flavors that appeal to you and give them a try. We have discovered that the sour Jello flavors pair particularly nicely with the candy coating because grapes are naturally sweet. They offer a wonderful counterpoint to the powdered sugar and the sweetness of the grapes. Which Variety of Grape Works Best as Candied Grapes?
All you need to do is choose your preferred grape variety and you should be set to go. This recipe works well with any seedless grape. Just make sure that when you press the grapes, they are firm. You will receive a very different outcome from mushy grapes. in a negative manner, too.
Can Candy Grapes be Frozen?
